Posture Month 2025 | Go Well Rooted Health & Chiropractic NYC + NJ
Have you ever seen a side photo of yourself and noticed your head is jutting forward? That’s something we call Forward Head Posture—and it’s one of the most common (and overlooked) posture problems affecting people today.
It may not seem like a big deal, but this one simple imbalance can lead to neck pain, headaches, fatigue, poor breathing, and even increased stress levels.
This November, in honor of Posture Month, we’re taking a deeper look at how your neck, spine, and posture all work together—and what you can do to correct it.
What Is Forward Head Posture?
Forward Head Posture (FHP), also called “anterior head carriage,” happens when your head sits in front of your shoulders instead of directly above them. This often shows up from:
- Hours of computer or phone use
- Poor sitting and standing habits
- Weak postural muscles
- Flat feet or poor foot support (yes—your feet affect your neck!)
The result? More strain on your neck, shoulders, and upper back. And worse posture over time.
Why Should You Care?
For every inch your head moves forward, it can add up to 10 pounds of pressure to your neck.
That’s like wearing a bowling ball on a string all day long.
This kind of posture affects:
- Breathing – Shallow, chest-based breathing instead of deep, calming diaphragm breathing
- Balance – Reduced stability and coordination
- Energy – Poor posture increases stress and tension, even without pain
- Long-Term Health – Studies link FHP to spine degeneration, chronic fatigue, and even decreased cognitive performance
The Bigger Picture: It’s Not Just the Neck
Here’s the key insight we teach in our clinic:
Forward Head Posture is often a whole-body problem.
It’s connected to:
- Foot imbalance (like overpronation or collapsed arches)
- Pelvic tilt
- Muscle compensation patterns
That’s why our approach includes a full posture assessment from head to toe—not just a quick look at the neck.
